• Frank Gehry, a world-renowned Canadian-American architect and designer, died at the age of 96 after a short respiratory illness.
• He was awarded the Pritzker Prize, which is described as the field’s top honour in architecture.
• His other honours included the Royal Institute of British Architects gold medal, the Americans for the Arts lifetime achievement award, and the Companion of the Order of Canada.
• Among his many masterpieces were the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain; The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles; and Berlin’s DZ Bank Building.
• He also designed an expansion of Facebook’s Northern California headquarters.
• Gehry founded the architectural firm Gehry Partners LLP in 1962.
• He designed the InterActiveCorp (IAC) Building in New York City and the New York By Gehry building.
• He joined the faculty of the University of Southern California as a professor of architecture and also taught at Yale and Columbia University.
• Born Ephraim Owen Goldberg in Toronto on February 28, 1929, he later became a US citizen and changed his name.
• The Gehry-designed Guggenheim Museum in Abu Dhabi is expected to be completed in 2026.
