India and Brazil sign tripartite MoU to boost Scorpène submarine maintenance and defence ties

• A landmark tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Navy, Brazilian Navy, and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.
• The MoU focuses on the exchange of information related to the maintenance of Scorpène-class submarines and other naval vessels.
• The agreement aims to enhance life-cycle support, enable experience sharing in maintenance, logistics, and training, and strengthen cooperation between government agencies and industry of both nations.
• The MoU will further boost Defence Research and Development (R&D) collaboration and drive technological innovation in sustaining Scorpène-class submarines and other naval platforms.
• The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi visited Brazil.
• In July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Brazil, where he and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva decided to charter a strategic roadmap to strengthen bilateral ties, including defence and security.
• India and Brazil recognized convergent views and strategic complementarities in defence and security matters.
• An Agreement on the Exchange and Mutual Protection of Classified Information was signed, enabling deeper cooperation in various strategic areas.
• A Bilateral Cybersecurity Dialogue was established to deepen cooperation through the exchange of information, experiences, and national perspectives on cybersecurity issues.
