Thailand seeks BRICS membership with India’s support

• Thailand has formally expressed its ambition to join the BRICS grouping.
• Thailand is seeking India’s backing ahead of New Delhi’s chairmanship of BRICS in 2026.
• The intention to join BRICS was announced by Thai Ambassador Chavanart Thangsumphant at a National Day reception in Delhi.
• India, a founding member of BRICS, will host the summit next year.
• India-Thailand relations were elevated to a Strategic Partnership earlier this year.
• Thailand raised the matter of its BRICS membership with India during Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow’s visit from 29 November to 2 December.
• Thailand's national day is on 5th December.
