ICGS Samudra Pratap commissioned as India’s first indigenous Pollution Control Vessel with women officers

Key facts

• ICGS Samudra Pratap, the first of two Pollution Control Vessels built by Goa Shipyard Limited, was commissioned by Rajnath Singh.
• The ship is equipped with side-sweeping arms, floating booms, high-capacity skimmers, portable barges, and a pollution-control laboratory.
• It integrates Dynamic Positioning, Integrated Bridge System, Integrated Platform Management System, and Automated Power Management System.
• Powered by two 7,500 kW diesel engines driving indigenously developed Controllable Pitch Propellers, it offers 6,000 nautical mile endurance.
• The vessel displaces approximately 4,200 tons and achieves speeds exceeding 22 knots.
• It carries a 30 mm CRN-91 gun and two 12.7 mm Stabilised Remote-Controlled Guns supported by modern fire-control systems.
• Based at Kochi, the ship will undertake pollution response, maritime surveillance, and environmental protection duties.
• The complement includes the maiden appointment of two women Officers performing duties alongside male counterparts.
