Maharashtra Government inks MoU with Finnish firms to modernise Sassoon Dock

Key facts

• Maharashtra Government signed an MoU on 7 March 2026 with three Finnish companies—Helvar, Mirasis, and River Recycle—to modernise Sassoon Dock.
• The agreement was signed by the Maharashtra Fisheries Development Corporation with the Finnish firms at an event in Mumbai.
• Sassoon Dock has around 1,560 registered mechanised fishing boats and records an average annual fish production of 50,000 to 60,000 metric tonnes.
• The modernisation includes construction of net-mending sheds, workshops, underground water tanks, water pipelines, pump houses, protective walls, and renovation of public facilities.
• Work on ice plants, strengthening of the jetty wall, fish workers’ restrooms, and a modern auction hall is underway.
• The tie-up will focus on improving waste management, recycling plastic waste and discarded fishing nets, and strengthening the net repair system through capacity building.
