Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education (MoE), released a three-year action plan (2026–2029) for the Nasha Mukt Vidyalaya initiative under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA).
A 500-meter drug-free zone will be mandated around every school.
School heads and nodal teachers must report suspicious activities within the zone to local administration and police.
Teachers will receive specialised training to identify early signs of substance abuse and provide counselling.
Peer-led programmes will be promoted to build student support against substance abuse.
Monitoring and reporting system will operate at school, district, and state levels.
NMBA was launched on 15 August 2020 by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE) and now covers all districts.
