India’s First Chip Fabrication Plant – Rs 91,000 Cr Investment

• The Ministry of Commerce and Industry notified a special economic zone (SEZ) for Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Private Limited at Dholera, Gujarat.
• Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Private Limited proposes an investment of Rs 91,000 crore to set up India’s first chip fabrication unit.
• The SEZ will cover 66.166 hectares and is expected to generate employment for 21,000 persons.
• The SEZ is designed to support electronic hardware, software and IT‑enabled services, with dedicated infrastructure and an approval mechanism.
• The government amended SEZ rules in June 2025, reducing the minimum contiguous land requirement for semiconductor SEZs from 50 hectares to 10 hectares.
• Four additional semiconductor and electronics component SEZ proposals have been approved: Micron Semiconductor Technology India Pvt Ltd (Rs 13,000 crore, assembly‑testing‑packaging in Sanand, Gujarat), Aequs Group (electronic component manufacturing in Dharwad, Karnataka), Kaynes Semicon Ltd (Rs 681 crore, assembly‑testing‑packaging), and CG Semi Ltd (Rs 2,150 crore, assembly‑testing‑packaging).
