Tata Steel has entered into agreements with Paul Wurth, S.A (Luxembourg), part of the SMS Group GmbH (SMS Group), to implement the world's first electrically-assisted syngas smelter (EASyMelt) technology.
The first industrial demonstration of the EASyMelt technology will be conducted in the 'E' Blast Furnace at the Tata Steel Jamshedpur plant.
The project aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 50 per cent compared to the blast furnace's baseline operation.
