The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced its withdrawal from the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and OPEC+ effective May 1, 2026.
The UAE is the world's seventh-largest oil producer.
The decision allows the UAE to pursue its target of increasing production capacity to 5 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2027.
The UAE had been a member of OPEC since 1967.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei.
