• Legendary Urdu poet and Padma Shri awardee Bashir Badr passed away at the age of 91 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
• Born in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh (UP), on 15 February 1935, he was renowned for his mastery of the Urdu language and was also well versed in Persian, Hindi, and English.
• His poetry collections include Aas, Ikai, Image, Aamad, Aahat, Kulliyate Bashir Badr, and Ujjale Apni Yadon ke, while his literary criticism works include Azadi Ke Bad Urdu Ghazals Ka Tanqidi Mutala and Biswin Sadi Mein Ghazal.
• He was a recipient of the Padma Shri and was honoured four times by the UP Urdu Academy, once by the Bihar Urdu Academy, and received the Meer Academy Award.
• He authored famous couplets such as Kuch to majbooriyaan rahi hongi and Ujale apni yaadon ke, and wrote a notable verse on maintaining grace in enmity during the 1972 Shimla Agreement.
