Colombia and Netherlands launch Santa Marta Conference to accelerate transition away from fossil fuels

• The Santa Marta Conference was launched by Colombia and the Netherlands to initiate multilateral coordination for the transition away from fossil fuels (TAFF).
• The coalition consists of 57 countries and the European Union (EU), representing one third of global GDP and one third of fossil fuel consumption.
• The second Conference is scheduled to be held in 2027 in Tuvalu, co-organised by Tuvalu and Ireland.
• The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced its departure from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on 28 April.
• Three priority workstreams were established with support from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), and the NDC Partnership coalition.
