Five Persons Recommended as Supreme Court Judges

• The Supreme Court (SC) Collegium recommended the elevation of Justice Sheel Nagu, Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Justice Arun Palli, and Senior Advocate V Mohana as judges of the SC.
• The recommended candidates include the Chief Justices of the Punjab and Haryana High Court (Justice Sheel Nagu), Bombay High Court (Justice Shree Chandrashekhar), Madhya Pradesh High Court (Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva), and Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court (Justice Arun Palli).
• The Union Cabinet approved the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, to increase the strength of judges in the SC from 34 to 38.
• The amendment to the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956, increases the maximum number of judges to 37, excluding the Chief Justice of India (CJI).
• The SC Collegium is headed by CJI Surya Kant, who has a tenure until February 2027.
