Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya appointed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister (CM) of Assam.
The appointment was formalised under Clause (1) of Article 164 of the Constitution of India following the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) victory.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at 11:40 am on May 12 at the Veterinary College Field at Khanapara in Guwahati.
In the 126-seat assembly, the BJP won 82 seats while its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF), won 10 seats each.
Union Minister JP Nadda served as the central observer and Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini as the co-observer for the election of the legislature party leader.
