India and Myanmar discuss boosting defence ties and maritime security in Bay of Bengal region (May 2-5, 2026)

• Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi visited Myanmar from May 2-5, 2026, to intensify the 'Act East Policy'.
• Admiral Tripathi met Admiral Htein Win, Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Navy, in Naypyitaw on 04 May 2026 to enhance maritime security in the Bay of Bengal region under MAHASAGAR.
• The naval engagements focused on capacity building, training exchanges, mobile training teams (MTTs), hydrography, and greater interoperability.
• Admiral Tripathi met Myanmar's defence minister General Htun Aung and naval commanders Rear Admiral Aung Aung Naing and Rear Admiral Khun Aung Kyaw.
• The Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) Sagar entered Yangon Harbour as part of India's maritime engagement in the region.
