Key facts
- The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCFPD) announced amendments to the Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2013.
- The scope of Government Approved Test Centres (GATC) has been expanded to include verification and re-verification of five fuel dispensing systems: Petrol/Diesel, CNG, LPG, LNG, and Hydrogen dispensers.
- GATCs are now authorised to undertake verification and re-verification of a total of 23 categories of weights and measures under the Legal Metrology framework.
- The verification fee is fixed at ₹5,000 per nozzle for petrol and diesel dispensers, and ₹10,000 per nozzle for CNG, LPG, LNG, and Hydrogen dispensers.
- Officers of the rank of Joint Secretary and above have been authorised to exercise powers under the Rules to enable quicker processing of approvals.
