Project VARTAK 66th Raising Day observed on 7 May

Key facts

• Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Project VARTAK celebrated its 66th Raising Day at Tezpur in Assam.
• Project VARTAK was originally raised as Project Tusker on 7 May 1960 and holds the distinction of being the first project of the BRO.
• The project was rechristened as Project VARTAK in 1963 and historically improved the Bhalukpong-Tenga-Tawang axis connecting Bomdila with Sela.
• It currently manages a 2066.90 km road network through task forces at Tenga, Sapper Camp, and Khirmu in the districts of Sonitpur, West Kameng, and Tawang.
• The project maintains strategic passes and locations including Womingla, Bumla, Yangtse, Nagula, Y Junction, Klemta, Lungro GG, Monkey Pass, Lungar, Dhaula, and Assam Hill.
