• United States (US) President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping conducted a two-day summit in Beijing, with the final meeting held at the Zhongnanhai complex.
• President Trump stated that China agreed to purchase 200 jets from the US aviation manufacturer Boeing, marking China's first purchase of US jets in nearly a decade.
• The US and China agreed that Iran must never possess a nuclear weapon and that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open to support the free flow of energy.
• The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway through which 20 per cent of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies were shipped before the war.
• The US remains committed to supporting the defence of Taiwan under the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act, which enables the supply of weapons and military cooperation.
