Key facts
- The Ministry of Rural Development announced the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB–G RAM G) to replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) from July 1, 2026.
- VB–G RAM G increases the statutory rural employment guarantee from 100 days under MGNREGA to 125 days per year for eligible rural households performing unskilled manual work.
- The government has allocated ₹95,692.31 crore for the programme in FY27, with the total outlay including states' contributions expected to exceed ₹1.51 lakh crore.
- Wages will be paid via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to bank or post office accounts on a weekly basis or within 15 days of muster roll closure.
