The Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) has deployed armed village defence volunteers and personnel from Bangladesh Ansar and the Village Defence Party at more than a dozen spots along the international border in West Bengal and Tripura.
These deployments are primarily located in the Bangladeshi border districts of Chapainawabganj, Thakurgaon, and Dinajpur.
India shares a total border of 4,096.70 km with Bangladesh, with West Bengal sharing the longest stretch at 2,216.7 km.
The Border Security Force (BSF) maintains at least 1,185 border outposts along the border and arrests between 1,500-2,000 illegal immigrants annually.
The chiefs of the BSF and BGB commenced their scheduled biannual conference in New Delhi on Monday to discuss illegal push-ins and border-related matters.
