India and Slovakia elevate bilateral ties to Comprehensive Partnership on 16 June 2026

Key facts

• India and Slovakia elevated their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's State Visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister since Slovakia's independence in 1993.
• Slovakia reiterated its support for India's permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and its membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
• The two nations signed a Letter of Intent on Defence Cooperation and established a Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism, while condemning the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on 22 April 2025.
• A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Digital Technologies was signed to collaborate on artificial intelligence, semiconductors, start-ups, innovation ecosystems, research institutions, technology companies, 5G applications, 6G standardisation, Internet of Things (IoT), and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technologies.
• The first-ever Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Chair in Artificial Intelligence was established at the Technical University of Kosice.
• An agreement was signed between the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the Slovak Technical University to promote student exchanges, scholarships, and joint research.
• A total of eleven agreements and memoranda were signed covering labour migration, defence cooperation, digital technologies, higher education, audio-visual creation, quantum communication, healthcare, scientific research, tourism, and academic exchanges.
