The Indian Army introduced 'Army Uniforms-2026', a 174-page manual replacing previous regulations issued eight years ago.
A new winter uniform, Winter Dress No. 3B, consisting of an angola shirt, battle jacket, and beret, has been introduced for all ranks.
Officers are now permitted to wear closed-neck bandi jackets as part of formal dress, in a solid, sober colour.
Women officers may wear sarees or kurta-salwar with ankle-length trousers and dupatta, but sleeveless kurtas, palazzos, and cigarette pants are prohibited.
The manual restricts tattoos and body piercings, prohibits perfumes or deodorants while in uniform, and limits moustache length to 12 centimetres.
