International MSME Day, also known as Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day, is observed globally on 27 June every year.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) designated this day to recognise the contribution of MSMEs to sustainable development and the global economy.
According to the United Nations (UN), MSMEs represent approximately 90 percent of businesses and contribute more than 70 percent of employment worldwide.
In emerging markets, formal MSMEs are key economic drivers, contributing up to 40 percent of the national income or Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
