Kerala to establish Academic Syndicate for higher education governance; steps to curb academic migration

• The Kerala government will establish an Academic Syndicate as an apex body to coordinate higher education governance and will focus on developing globally competitive institutions to curb academic migration.
• Steps will be taken to ensure uniform and transparent recognition of University Grants Commission (UGC)-approved degrees in the state, and a state-wide apprenticeship exchange platform connecting students and industry will be developed.
• The government plans to set up Jawaharlal Nehru Scientific Centres to inculcate scientific temper, and launch a ‘Semester in Kerala’ programme to strengthen academic tourism.
• The number of Plus Two seats in all districts will be increased based on need, and government schools and colleges will be upgraded with modern facilities, digital learning systems, and improved academic standards.
• Skill-development programmes will be expanded to improve employability, and higher education institutions will be encouraged to become centres of excellence, innovation, and research through stronger collaboration.
