President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Shaurya Chakra on Lieutenant Commander Suraj Prashar during the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2026 (Phase-I) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The award was granted for bravery during Operation Chuntawadi in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Lieutenant Commander Suraj Prashar led a joint cordon and search operation on November 5 and 6, 2024, in Chuntawadi village, resulting in the elimination of one A++ graded foreign terrorist and the recovery of war-like stores.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Other recipients of the Shaurya Chakra for their bravery during the operation in Chuntawadi include Assistant Commandant Mohd Shafiq, Lieutenant Commander Ram Goyal, and Constable Saddam Hussain.
