  • Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, launched Mission Senehjori in collaboration with the Government of Assam, Central Silk Board (CSB), and the Ministry of Textiles.
  • The mission aims to transform Assam's Muga silk, which is India's first GI-tagged silk and accounts for approximately 90 per cent of global production, into a globally competitive luxury textile ecosystem.
  • The initiative will adopt a cluster-based approach across the districts of Jorhat, Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Majuli, and Sualkuchi.
  • The estimated investment for the mission is ₹396-411 crore over three years, including ₹136-151 crore from DoNER.
  • The project targets the establishment of five modernised Muga reeling units, one Muga Spun Mill, 30 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), over 1,180 Farmer Interest Groups, regeneration of 5,000 hectares of host plants, and digital connection of more than 8,000 households.
