Neelkanth Mishra was appointed as India's Executive Director at the World Bank, representing a South Asian constituency comprising India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka.
The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) in June 2026.
He succeeds Parameswaran Iyer, who held the position since February 2023.
Mishra graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering and received the Director's Gold Medal in 1997.
He serves as a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, on the boards of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), and as Chief Economist at Axis Bank and Head of Global Research at Axis Capital.
