NFHS-6: Child Nutrition and Health Indicators in Madhya Pradesh

Key facts

• The National Family Health Survey-6 (NFHS-6) 2023-24 reports that 31.4 per cent of children in Madhya Pradesh are stunted, 39.7 per cent are underweight, and 23.8 per cent suffer from wasting.
• Only 12 per cent of children aged six to 23 months in Madhya Pradesh receive a minimum acceptable diet, and exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months has fallen to 56.4 per cent.
• Maternal health indicators in Madhya Pradesh show that 96.2 per cent of women received at least one antenatal check-up and 89.8 per cent of deliveries occurred in health institutions.
• Madhya Pradesh faces a double burden of malnutrition, with 22.2 per cent of women and 17.6 per cent of men being overweight or obese, while diabetes rates are 14.5 per cent for women and 18.3 per cent for men.
• Women's internet access in Madhya Pradesh increased from 26.9 per cent to 62 per cent, with 92.1 per cent of women having bank accounts and 90.4 per cent participating in household decision-making.
