The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of Saibal Chattopadhyay as the chairperson of the National Statistical Commission (NSC).
Saibal Chattopadhyay, a former director of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, succeeds Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar as the head of the apex body.
The government also named Shubhabrata Das, Satyendra Bahadur Singh, and Madhavan Mukund as members of the commission.
The NSC was established in 2005 to serve as the nodal body for core statistical activities under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
The commission consists of a part-time chairperson, four part-time members, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog as an ex-officio member, and the Secretary of MoSPI.
