Saurabh Vijay to take additional charge as CEO of India AI Mission

Key facts

• Saurabh Vijay, the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), will assume additional charge as the CEO of the India AI Mission.
• The India AI Mission is a strategic initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) with an approved budget of Rs. 10,371 crore.
• Saurabh Vijay replaces the previous CEO, Abhishek Singh, who was appointed as the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
• Approved by the Cabinet in March 2024 for a five-year duration, the mission aims to establish an indigenous Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem in India.
• The mission has established 27 India Data and AI labs and onboarded over 38,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) to support computer infrastructure.
