• A 90-kilogram bronze statue of Maharishi Sushruta, the pioneer of modern plastic surgery, was unveiled at the Playfair Auditorium of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) in the United Kingdom.
• Maharishi Sushruta is globally recognised as the Father of Surgery, having performed over 300 types of surgeries and invented 124 distinct surgical instruments approximately 2,600 years ago.
• Professor Chandra Cheruvu authored and released a comprehensive, evidence-based book titled Maharshi Sushruta: A Compendium – Father of Surgery during the installation ceremony.
• Maharishi Sushruta authored the Sushruta Samhita, which is considered the world's first treatise on surgery and includes principles on nasal reconstruction and medical ethics.
• The statue was crafted by a sculptor from Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, and donated by the Cheruvu Family Foundation to the RCSEd, which was established in 1505.
