Uzbekistan becomes first Central Asian representative in New Development Bank

• Uzbekistan became the 10th member of the New Development Bank (NDB) on 5 June 2026, becoming the first Central Asian representative.
• The NDB was established in 2015 at the initiative of the BRICS countries.
• The founding members are Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa; other members include Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bangladesh, and Algeria.
• Director General of the NDB Eurasian Regional Centre Andrey Bokarev announced Uzbekistan's accession and stated that priority areas include energy, water management, transport, municipal infrastructure, and social infrastructure.
• The law on Uzbekistan's accession to the NDB Agreement was signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 21 May 2026.
