V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) achieves 45 per cent reduction in carbon emissions

• Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal announced that V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) has reduced its net carbon emissions by approximately 45 per cent.
• The port has been officially recognised as a Scope-2 Emission-Free Port, with renewable energy now offsetting nearly 94 per cent of its total energy consumption equivalent.
• VOC Port is the site of India’s first green hydrogen pilot project at a major port, as documented in an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta case study titled The Hydrogen Pivot.
• The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) launched the PortGPT mobile application, making VOC Port the first major port in India to deploy an enterprise-grade generative artificial intelligence platform.
• VOC Port Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) to collaborate on research and establish a Centre of Excellence in Maritime Logistics and Port Management.
