The government has established the Bureau of Port Security (BoPS) under the Ministry of Shipping.
The BoPS is responsible for regulatory and oversight functions relating to the security of ships and port facilities.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will play a key oversight role in the bureau.
The Directorate General of Shipping is being renamed as the Directorate General of Maritime Administration.
The BoPS will be headed by the Director General of Maritime Administration, currently Shyam Jagannathan.
