India to Chair 9th UN Intergovernmental Group of Experts Session on Consumer Protection in Geneva

• India will chair the ninth session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts (IGE) on Consumer Protection Law and Policy at the Palais des Nations in Geneva from July 6 to 8.
• The session is organised by the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and serves as the principal intergovernmental platform for dialogue on consumer protection law and policy.
• Nidhi Khare, Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, will lead the Indian delegation and steer discussions on global priorities such as sustainable consumption and cross-border disputes.
• The session will feature the launch of the United Nations Principles for Consumer Product Safety and a Voluntary Peer Review of Argentina's consumer protection law and policy.
• India's National Consumer Helpline (NCH) has secured refunds exceeding ₹91.77 crore across 36 sectors, while the e-Jagriti platform provides Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled digital dispute resolution.
