• The Jay Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya (JPNSV) scheme is a flagship initiative of the Uttar Pradesh government's Social Welfare department providing free residential education to socially, economically, and educationally disadvantaged students.
• The scheme operates 101 schools, comprising 69 boys' schools and 32 girls' schools, which are affiliated with either the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP).
• Seat reservations are allocated as 60 per cent for Scheduled Caste (SC), 25 per cent for Other Backward Classes (OBC), and 15 per cent for the General category, with 60 per cent reserved for the sweeper category in special schools.
• Eligibility for the scheme requires an annual family income of up to ₹46,080 for students in rural areas and up to ₹56,460 for students in urban areas.
• The programme provides free residential education from Class 6 to 12, including uniforms, textbooks, stationery, and special coaching for NEET, JEE, and CUET for students of Classes 11 and 12.
