Viksit Bharat G-RAM-G Yojana: First Instalment of Rs 25,863 Crore Released

Key facts

• Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan released the first instalment of Rs 25,863 crore to all states under the Viksit Bharat G-RAM-G Yojana (VB-G-RAM-G).
• VB-G-RAM-G replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act from 1 July 2026 and guarantees 125 days of wage employment per rural household annually.
• Wages under the scheme are paid via direct benefit transfer weekly or within 15 days, with provisions for unemployment allowance in case of delays.
• The government announced a total allocation of Rs 7.5 lakh crore for VB-G-RAM-G over five years, with an interim allocation of Rs 95,692.31 crore for 2026-27.
• The scheme follows a 60:40 fund-sharing ratio between the Centre and states, prioritising projects such as irrigation systems, water conservation, rural roads, and community facilities.
