AIIA Launches Garbhini Mitra Course to Train Maternal Wellness Support Workers

Key facts
- The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) launched the 'Garbhini Mitra' course for the 2026-27 academic session.
- The six-month offline course is conducted at AIIA's Sarita Vihar campus and is based on Ayurvedic concepts including Garbhini Paricharya, Sutika Paricharya and Garbhadhana Vidhi.
- The course aims to train personnel to provide health education, lifestyle guidance and community-level support to women during pregnancy and the postnatal period.
- Each batch will have 20 students, and classes will be held from Monday to Friday between 3pm and 5pm.
- Participants will receive practical training in trimester-specific diet, lifestyle modifications, pregnancy-safe yoga, emotional support during labour, newborn massage and basic life-support protocols.
- Candidates who have completed Class 12 from a recognised board and are at least 18 years old can apply; students awaiting Class 12 results can also submit provisional applications.
- The last date to apply is August 31, 2026.
- After completion, candidates can work as Garbhini Mitra Assistants, prenatal/postnatal care assistants, antenatal wellness guides and maternal health support workers in Ayush centres, maternity clinics, NGOs and community health projects.
- AIIA clarified that the course does not replace clinical antenatal care, and regular medical check-ups remain essential.
