Key facts
- The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) completed 10 years on August 7, 2026, having been launched on August 9, 2016, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
- GeM has facilitated a cumulative Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of over ₹20 lakh crore through more than 3.78 crore orders as of August 7, 2026.
- The annual GMV surged from ₹422 crore in FY 2016-17 to over ₹5 lakh crore in each of FY 2024-25 and FY 2025-26.
- The number of profile-completed sellers grew from 3,339 to 25.45 lakh, and primary buyer organisations from 1,707 to 1.37 lakh over the decade.
- Registered Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) rose from 2,424 to 12.25 lakh, and MSEs fulfilled orders worth over ₹9.07 lakh crore, accounting for 45.6% of cumulative GMV.
- Over 2.24 lakh women-led MSEs completed more than 50 lakh orders worth over ₹99,147 crore, and 42,242 start-ups secured orders worth over ₹65,633 crore.
- An IIT Delhi study estimated a monetised benefit of ₹86,571.69 crore from price and process efficiencies for FY 2023-24 to FY 2025-26.
- GeM items were cheaper than other e-commerce platforms 74.3% of the time, delivering a spend-weighted saving of 13.6% based on a comparison of 101 items.
- Transaction charges have been reduced from 0.50% to 0.30%, with orders up to ₹10 lakh now free, and 97% of all orders attract no transaction fee.
