The Centre extended the tenure of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Rahul Navin by one year, from August 13, 2026 to August 13, 2027.
The extension continues beyond his scheduled retirement on July 31, 2027.
Rahul Navin is an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 1993 batch who joined the ED as special director in 2019.
He became the agency's interim chief in September 2023 and was appointed as full-time chief for a fixed tenure of two years on August 14, 2024.
During his tenure, the ED has restituted assets worth over ₹32,000 crore to victims out of total attachments worth ₹2.40 lakh crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Over ₹15,000 crore of the restituted assets is linked to fugitives Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.
The ED has filed 2,396 charge sheets in its 8,851 PMLA cases and confiscated assets worth ₹930 crore under the Fugitive Economic Offenders (FEO) Act.
