Sarla Aviation receives DGCA design organisation approval

Key facts

• The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted Design Organisation Approval (DOA) to Sarla Aviation on August 8, 2026.
• The DOA, issued under CAR 21 Subpart J, qualifies Sarla Aviation to proceed with type certification for its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
• Sarla Aviation completed a flight-test campaign for Sylla, its half-scale eVTOL technology demonstrator, with over 500 flight tests and 18 hours of flight testing.
• The company has developed a full-scale prototype of Shunya, described as India's first indigenous eVTOL of its class.
• The demonstrator programme includes indigenous motors and an 800-volt powertrain architecture.
• Sarla Aviation signed partnerships with Manipal Hospitals, Aeromed Air Ambulance, Prestige Group, Jio-bp, Jeppesen Foreflight, Hexel Composites, and Tata Elxsi.
• The next prototype is scheduled for January 2027 to carry out transition flight.
