India and the United States are conducting the 22nd edition of Exercise Yudh Abhyas, featuring for the first time a two-theatre format with training across two different operational theatres in a single exercise.
The exercise begins at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan, focusing on open manoeuvre, long-range fires and desert operations, before moving to Auli in Uttarakhand near the Line of Actual Control, focusing on high altitude, difficult terrain and logistics.
Yudh Abhyas began in 2004 and has become a key pillar of India-US Army-to-Army cooperation, with past editions covering mountain warfare, artillery and aviation integration, electronic warfare, surveillance, unmanned systems, counter-drone operations and casualty evacuation.
