• The Asian Games 2026 will be held from September 19 across Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya in Japan, marking the 20th edition of the Games since it was first held in 1951.
• More than 15,000 athletes from across Asia and beyond will compete at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026.
• The winning medal design was selected through an open competition and was built around the Games' slogan 'Imagine One Asia'.
• The medal was designed by Daisuke Shiba, who drew inspiration from the theme of unity in diversity, with ceramic discs repeatedly broken during development until an appealing form emerged.
• The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 medals have a diameter of 80 mm and a thickness of 5 mm.
• The gold medal weighs approximately 265 g and is pure silver plated with at least 1 g of gold, the silver medal weighs approximately 264 g and is pure silver, and the bronze medal weighs approximately 222 g and is red brass made from 95 per cent copper and 5 per cent zinc.
• The medals are part of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Recycled Medal Project, with a portion of metals recovered from small electronic devices donated by participating municipalities.
• The medal ribbon incorporates the silhouette of the kakitsubata, or Japanese iris, the official flower of Aichi Prefecture.
• The medal case features an octagonal shape inspired by the character for 'eight', used in the emblem of the Owari Tokugawa family and part of the current emblem of Nagoya City.
• The medal case is made from Aichi-grown Japanese cypress, or hinoki, reflecting Aichi's tea ceremony culture of storing treasured objects in wooden boxes.
