DFPD and FCI Sign MoU to Advance Modernisation in Food Grain Management

• The Department of Food & Public Distribution (DFPD) and the Food Corporation of India (FCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for FY27 to modernise India's foodgrain management, announced in New Delhi on September 8, 2026.
• The MoU introduces an outcome-oriented performance framework linking FCI's performance to clearly defined annual parameters, focusing on logistics and supply chain management, quality control, and digitisation of business processes.
• It provides for capacity building and skill development initiatives for FCI employees to help adopt emerging technologies.
• A proportion of the MoU targets is linked to FCI depot performance through the Depot Darpan Portal, a web-based platform assessing depot infrastructure and operational efficiency.
• FCI undertakes procurement, storage, movement and distribution of foodgrains on behalf of the Central government to maintain food security.
