DoSJ&E Appointed Bhagwat Prasad Makwana as Chairperson of NCSK

• The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJ&E) appointed Bhagwat Prasad Makwana as Chairperson of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK).
• Kaishab Bihari was appointed Vice-Chairperson of the NCSK.
• Manoj Kumar Balmiki, Sushma Gaudiyal and Ravi Ramu Kalose were appointed Members of the NCSK, with Sushma Gaudiyal serving as a returning Member.
• All the appointments run up to 31 March 2028, matching the remaining tenure of the present Commission.
• The NCSK is a non-statutory body that exists by executive decision since the 1993 Act lapsed in 2004, which is why its term must be extended periodically.
• Safai karamcharis are persons engaged in or employed for manually cleaning, carrying, disposing of or handling human excreta or sanitation waste, whose rights the Commission is mandated to safeguard.
