Key facts
- Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari launched OneTag at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, enabling FASTag users to switch issuer banks while retaining the same physical tag, Tag ID and vehicle registration number.
- OneTag was jointly developed by Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), promoted by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
- The portability facility will be offered through NHAI's Rajmargyatra mobile application, requiring eligibility checks, verification, consent and selection of a preferred issuer.
- NPCI will provide the central technology infrastructure and update issuer details within the NETC network, while toll plazas continue processing payments through the existing NETC framework.
- Around 13 crore NETC FASTags have been issued so far, of which approximately 6 crore are active, with FASTag penetration above 98% in India.
