The Government e Marketplace (GeM) and the Textiles Committee (TC) signed an MoU to boost procurement of recycled and upcycled textile products.
The MoU aims to create a 'Waste-to-Value-to-Market' ecosystem for textile waste, scrap, and second-hand clothes.
Under the MoU, the TC will identify, verify, certify, and recognize eligible producers of recycled and upcycled textile products.
GeM will create dedicated categories for these products and facilitate seller onboarding and online market linkages.
The initiative focuses on women, MSMEs, local enterprises, artisans, recyclers, and other circular-economy enterprises.
The MoU was signed during the 62nd Foundation Day celebrations of the Textiles Committee in Mumbai.
