India Photonics Market Set to Grow Fourfold to $10 Billion by 2031

• India's domestic photonics market, currently around USD 2.5 billion, is projected to grow fourfold to USD 10 billion by 2031, driven by demand from data centres and electronics devices requiring high data speeds.
• The newly formed India Photonics Association (IPA) has 65 members, including SFO Technologies, GX Quantum Photonics, Lightspeed Photonics and Tejas Networks; its Secretary General is Ashwini Aggarwal.
• GX Group has earmarked Rs 500 crore for an advanced photonics facility in India, with manufacturing operations to commence from December 2026 and government approval received for phase 1 to make Optical Transceiver SFP.
• Data centres in India currently use photonics connectors supporting 10-40 Gbps, with demand expected to rise for 100-400 Gbps connectors due to AI data centres.
