United States and India Partner to Strengthen Undersea Cable Security under TRUST Initiative

• The United States and India are partnering to strengthen the security, resilience, and diversification of global undersea cable networks under the US-India TRUST (Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technologies) Initiative.
• In September 2026, the two nations brought together government and industry experts to host an 'Undersea Cables Workshop' aimed at safeguarding critical subsea communication infrastructure, as announced by the US Embassy in India on September 11, 2026.
• The US Embassy highlighted India's booming digital economy, surging demand for cloud and AI capabilities, and strategic geographical location as opportunities for India to become a primary global subsea cable hub.
• The TRUST initiative was launched during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Washington in February last year to promote cooperation in critical and emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotechnology, energy, space, and defence.
• US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said India is among the first top 10 countries to join the Pax Silica initiative, a trusted technology and supply-chain network led by the United States.
• Under the TRUST initiative, the US and India committed to work with private industry on a US-India Roadmap on Accelerating AI Infrastructure, covering next-generation data centres, access to compute and processors, and AI applications for societal challenges.
