DHRUVA Scheme: UPI-like Labels for Digital Address Sharing

• The Department of Posts released a draft amendment to the Post Office Act, 2023, to introduce the Digital Hub for Reference and Unique Virtual Address (DHRUVA) system.
• DHRUVA will let users replace textual addresses with labels like 'name@entity' and authorise firms to access their geographic coordinates and full address text.
• A Section 8 not-for-profit entity under government supervision will run the system, similar to NPCI’s role in UPI.
• DIGIPIN, a ten-character alphanumeric code mapping to about 14 square metres, forms the foundational addressing layer for DHRUVA.
