RBI Repatriates Gold, Boosts Domestic Reserves and Foreign Exchange Assets (Mid of November)
  • The Reserve Bank of India, between March 2025 and September 2025, has brought over 64 tonnes of gold back to the country.
  • Since March 2023, the RBI has brought home 274 tonnes of gold.
  • The Reserve Bank's gold reserve stands at 880 metric tonnes as of September 2025, according to its Half Yearly Report on Management of Foreign Exchange Reserves.
  • Of this, 575.8 metric tonnes are currently in India, while another 290.37 metric tonnes of gold are kept with the Bank of England (BoE) and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Switzerland.
  • The share of gold in the total foreign exchange reserves rose from 11.70 per cent in March 2025 to around 13.92 per cent in September 2025.
  • The RBI also has foreign currency assets of around $579.18 billion (about Rs 51.09 lakh crore) , comprising $489.54 billion (about Rs 43.15 lakh crore) in securities investments, $46.11 billion (about Rs 4.07 lakh crore) in deposits with other central banks and BIS, and another $43.53 billion (about Rs 3.84 lakh crore) in deposits with overseas commercial banks.
‘Operation Bullion Blaze’: Melting units and illegal shops raided in Mumbai, gold worth Rs 15 crore seized (Mid of November)
  • The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted raids on two facilities allegedly involved in melting gold and two unregistered shops linked to the network.
  • The action was named ‘Operation Bullion Blaze’ and resulted in the seizure of 11.88 kg of gold valued at Rs 15 crore.
  • DRI arrested 11 people, including the mastermind behind the racket, his father, employees, delivery boys, and an accountant.
  • The accused have been identified as N V Thakkar, V Thakkar, S S Joshi, S Joshi, A S Kesarkar, V V Kadam, P Kumar, S Narale, V H Rabari, SP Tripathi, and S P Rathod.
  • The syndicate smuggled gold into India to melt in covert furnaces and illegally sold the refined bullion on the grey market.
  • During the raid, 6.35 kg of gold was recovered on the spot, and an additional 5.53 kg of gold bars was seized from one of the shops.
  • A total of 11.88 kg of 24-carat gold and 8.72 kg of silver worth Rs 13.17 lakh were seized under the Customs Act, 1962.

  • The General Assembly recognized the importance of providing victims of acts of violence based on religion or belief and members of their families with appropriate support and assistance in accordance with applicable law.
  • The Day comes right after the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, observed on 21 August.
  • World Interfaith Harmony Week, proclaimed by the General Assembly in resolution A/RES/65/5, is observed from 1-7 February.
  • Other related observances include the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism (12 February), World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development (21 May), International Day for Tolerance (16 November), International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2010), and UN Year of Dialogue among Civilizations (2001).
  • Freedom of religion or belief, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to peaceful assembly and the right to freedom of association are enshrined in articles 18, 19 and 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
  • The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the Committee of Religious NGOs co-organized an event on “Interfaith harmony: Implementing the Transformative Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals” in 2016.
  • The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) includes a Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief.
